The Conquest of Belgrade occurred in 1521, when the Ottoman Empire besieged and captured the city of Belgrade, located in modern-day Serbia. The Ottoman forces were led by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, who personally commanded the siege.
The city was defended by a force of around 7,000 men, mostly consisting of Hungarians and Serbs led by Captain Nikola Skobaljić. The defenders fought valiantly, but were ultimately overwhelmed by the Ottomans, who breached the city walls and stormed the city.
The conquest of Belgrade was a significant victory for the Ottoman Empire, as it marked the first time that the Ottomans had captured a major European city since the fall of Constantinople in 1453. The conquest also cemented Ottoman control over the Balkans, and allowed them to expand further into Hungary and Central Europe.
